Myths vs. Facts: Setting the Record Straight on Immigration

When it comes to the immigration debate in Washington, too often the facts get lost in the rhetoric. To set the record straight on immigration, SIA and a group of 18 other industry leaders have developed a document titled "Debunking the Myth that Immigration Harms America." The document, which was presented today at a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee, examines and discredits a series of common misconceptions about immigration.

For too long, America’s broken high-skilled immigration system has been an obstacle to U.S. innovation, job creation and economic growth. SIA has long advocated for increasing the number of green cards available to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) graduates and expanding the H-1B visa program. Unfortunately, the divisive politics of the broader immigration debate have trumped good policy, and American businesses have suffered as a result.

Coalition Urges President Obama to Take Action on Immigration

As part of our ongoing effort to advance high-skilled immigration reform, SIA and a diverse coalition of business, family and immigration organizations this week sent a letter to President Barack Obama in support of executive action to address America’s dysfunctional immigration system. Specifically, the letter urges the President to help reduce immigration backlogs by mandating that only legal immigrant workers – not their spouses or children – count against the immigration limits called for by federal law:
